Tami's Story ...

Mom and me on swing photo.JPG

Before dementia entered our lives, my mother, Sharon, was quiet and reserved, ladylike, shy, and grounded in faith.  As our roles slowly reversed, I came to know a very different version of her.  My “new mom” was silly and childlike, adventurous and curious. She filled her pockets with rocks on our walks, hopped over creeks in a single bound, flirted shamelessly, laughed loudly, and bossed us around with confidence. Dementia didn’t erase who she was; it revealed parts of her I might never have known otherwise.

When I became my mother's caregiver, I had no medical background and little understanding of what lay ahead. Like many families, I felt overwhelmed by the healthcare system, uncertain about what to expect, and unprepared for the daily challenges of dementia. Along the way, I learned that many behaviors often labeled as "difficult" were actually expressions of unmet needs. The more I slowed down, observed, and responded with empathy, the more meaningful our journey became.

What I needed most in those early days was guidance; someone to help me understand what was happening, what to expect next, and how to navigate the road ahead with confidence and compassion. That experience inspired the creation of Sharon His Grace.

Today, we help families embrace the beautiful moments that still exist, let go of what no longer matters, and teach the overwhelming benefit of transforming from a task-oriented skillset to an empathetic mindset by relying on the Word of God.  We also walk alongside families as they navigate the complex medical system, because no one should have to do that alone.  We provide the practical guidance I once needed myself.

At the heart of Sharon His Grace is a deep trust that God is present in every season of this journey. I watched Him use my mother’s life, right up to her final moment, as a testament of love, purpose, and His grace.  Through Sharon His Grace, it is my prayer that her legacy brings comfort to families and glory to God,  who meets us faithfully in both the beauty and the heartbreak of dementia.

By His amazing grace,
Tami
